Everyone’s talking about keeping energy costs as low as possible this year. While many of us are aware of ways to save energy at home, business buildings are less frequently discussed. There is no question that boosting energy efficiency in commercial buildings is crucial for protecting against rising energy costs as well as striving to minimise carbon footprints to reach Net Zero objectives by 2050.
Every company is unique and runs differently, therefore it’s critical that businesses examine their operations to find opportunities to become more energy-efficient.
Changes that can be made include the following:
- A more energy-efficient heating system upgrade
- minimising the amount of heat that comes from the heater
- Keeping air conditioner filters clean and relocating furniture away from radiators
- making sure that office equipment is turned off when not in use
- lowering machine settings when it’s possible to do so
- examining equipment for leaks and making any necessary repairs as soon as possible to keep it operating efficiently
- Orienting new employees by highlighting, promoting, and rewarding the organization’s energy-saving behaviour
- avoiding paper as much as possible
Energy-efficient kitchen appliances for offices
The office kitchen is one of the spaces in a company that might be the least energy-efficient. The majority of this is caused by the volume of appliances and foot traffic. You should take into account the following to make your office kitchen as energy-efficient as possible:
- ensuring that kitchen equipment are always turned off when not in use
- Purchasing energy-saving appliances (A-rated or better)
- Using the dishwasher only when it is fully loaded
- Maintaining clean and well stocked refrigerators and freezers will help them use less electricity.
- making sure that the oven doors are correctly shut to minimise heat loss
